Mission & Vision
Identity, purpose, and direction
The family of God at North Church Cairns believe that we are given a new identity as God’s beloved children in Christ. Knowing who we are in Christ is a part of our mission statement, as it gives purpose to all we do in every arena of life. We believe God has purposed that North Church engage the culture of the world through our new identity in Christ.
Our commitment to God’s mission is not passive, but active. We actively participate in God’s mission to the world in all that we say and do, whether it’s in our homes with our families or in our respective vocations in the world. We firmly believe that God’s purpose in Christ is for us to engage the peoples of the earth where we are called, utilizing the gifts and talents bestowed on us by the Holy Spirit. We are convinced that it is God’s will that through the church, he would draw the nations of the earth to himself.
Our new identity in Christ not only gives us purpose in God’s mission but also provides us with a clear direction. We are a Pilgrim people, whose homeland is the New Heavens and New Earth. We are a people of hope in a broken world. Therefore, we engage in the sufferings of this age through the love of Christ, knowing that our hope in the future sustains us in the present.
Isaiah 60:1 -3 Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you, for behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nation shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
